LTL Freight Shipping

What's new
One screen for every shipment
Freight mode on the Orders screen: LTL freight is now available within the ShipWise ecosystem. Operators can ship palletized freight orders from the same Orders screen already used for parcel, with no separate system to log into and no re-entering order data.
Selecting a freight ship method switches the shipping screen into freight mode, surfacing the fields and documents a pallet shipment actually needs instead of forcing it through a parcel-shaped workflow.
Why this matters: Freight and parcel have lived in separate systems for most operators, which means separate logins, separate data entry, and separate training. Freight mode keeps freight inside the workflow your team already knows.

Freight fields, classes, and accessorials
In freight mode, packages become pallets, and freight-specific fields appear:
- Handling unit type: pallet, skid, crate, carton, tote, or wood/metal box
- Freight class, using the standard 18 NMFC classes from 50 to 500, with a default of 125 if none is set on a pallet
- NMFC code
- Pickup date and time, required before an order can ship
Rating and accessorials depend on the carrier account configured on your side. Some carrier accounts return live quotes covering linehaul, fuel surcharge, accessorials, and transit days, while others are rated manually.
Supported accessorials include liftgate, residential and inside pickup/delivery, appointment scheduling, pallet service, over-dimension, and COD.
Documents, generated automatically
Shipping an LTL order generates two documents automatically, and both can be reprinted anytime from the Shipments grid.
- Bill of Lading (PDF): BOL and PRO numbers, SCAC, trailer and seal numbers, freight charge terms, commodity lines with weight and class, and special instructions pulled from the order
- Pallet labels (4x6, one per handling unit): PRO and BOL barcodes, shipper and consignee information, freight class, NMFC, and unit numbering ("Pallet N of M")

API access
For teams shipping through an integration, the same LTL pipeline is available via the Freight API: GetServices, Rate, and Ship endpoints.
Current limitations
LTL freight does not yet support hazmat or dangerous goods, full-truckload service, or cross-carrier rate comparison in a single quote. Coverage is limited to US and CA-to-US shipments. Cancellation support varies, and voiding a booked shipment may require contacting the carrier directly.
ShipWise is committed to delivering intelligent shipping solutions that simplify complex logistics for 3PLs and high-volume e-commerce shippers. With each update, we help you ship smarter, faster, and more profitably.
